LAFAYETTE ANTICIPATION / EDITATHON ART+FEMINISMS 2017

Archives Nationales - 60 rue des Francs-Bourgeois, 75003 Paris

The third edition of Editathon Art+Feminisms organised by Lafayette Anticipations - Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette is placed under the aegis of disidentification and José Esteban Munoz alongside Wu Tsang and will take place at the Archives Nationales on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 2017.

Editathon Art+Feminisms is an international marathon on arts and feminisms. During two days of editing workshops and meetings, public is invited to reduce gender inequalities on Wikipedia platform (less than 12% of contributors are women) and to discuss about its issues and potential in the field of art. From MoMA in New York to the library of Athens, there are more than 150 places editing synchronously on Wikipedia platform to write the history of Afro- feminism.

In 2016, the Parisian edition, also held at the Archives Nationales, set a world record attendance : more than 600 people have created and edited Wikipedia files or simply have attended the workshops questioning gender inequalities in contemporary art and new media.

This year’s edition focuses on a particular subject: the work of José Esteban Muñoz and the notion of disidentification which regroups the processes by which a minority group distances itself from the stereotypes through its artistic practice and marks its refusal to conform to dominant norms.

During these two days, Editathon Art+Feminisms 2017 wants to be a welcoming space that opens a debate and where the answers are given by the field of contemporary art.

The public will be invited to create or improve Wikipedia articles on this subject and the artists that Muñoz takes as examples and as case studies. Interventions by artists, philosophers and intellectuals will complete this program by presenting Muñoz’s legacy.

To prepare Editathon 2017, the workshop "Le présent de nos savoirs" forms a working group, open to all, exploring the book "Disidentification: Queer of colors and the Performance of Politics" (1999) alongside the key actors in the field of contemporary art and prepares its edition on Wikipedia platform during Editathon.

Organized by Lafayette Anticipation - Fondation d'entreprise Galeries Lafayette, in partnership with Wikipédia France and the Université de Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle.
