FROM 18 SEPTEMBER 2010 OPENING OF BAL Paris, France A new space dedicated to the documentary image, BAL is a project to be launched by the association of the Friends of Magnum. Its aim is to lead a cultural and educational action, asking the question of what is at stake in the reproduction of the world through images. Its inaugural exhibition, taking place between the 18 September and 19 December, will bring together 10 photographers and filmmakers among the most influential in the last 50 years, and whose work questions the notion of anonymity. This notion, which by definition is indeterminate and unremarkable, escapes all visual stereotypes and classification: Walker Evans, Chauncey Hare, Standish Lawder, Lewis Baltz, Anthony Hernandez, Sharon Lockhart, Jeff Wall, Bruce Gilden, Arianna Arcara and Luca Santese. Press opening: Wednesday 15 September 2010 LE BAL 6, impasse de la défense
