The 2011 edition marks an important shift for Paris Photo, with a new venue at the Grand Palais and Julien Frydman as its new Director. This prestigious venue will without a doubt, add to Paris Photo's unique international position and make it an even greater fixture of Paris' vibrant artistic and cultural scene. Taking African photography as its special theme, Paris Photo 2011 pays tribute to the rich breadth and diversity of work produced by the continent’s creative talent in this field, from Bamako to Cape Town. This fall, the Petit Palais will present an exhibition dedicated to the theme of woman in India, questioning how have their roles has evolved over the past years? How the feminization of Indian society brings changes to the rest of the continent? Sponsored by BNP Paribas and organised in collaboration with Magnum photos, this exhibition commemorates 150 years of operations in India (1860-2010). The Rencontres d’Arles is one of the leading international photography festivals in the world. The festival has been playing a major part in achieving recognition for photography as an art form since 1970. Every year, the Rencontres d’Arles presents 60 different exhibitions in 20 locations in the town of Arles, South of France. Directed by François Hébel, this year’s programme will turn the spotlight on Mexico, from the Mexican Revolution to contemporary photography. This will be presented alongside the 10th Anniversary of the Rencontres d’Arles Awards, the 30th Anniversary of the New York Time Magazine, and a string of exhibitions including From Here On a new manifesto on photography in the age of the internet, a retrospective dedicated to Chris Marker, a special project by Wang Qingsong, along with an ambitious programme of evening screenings, concerts and events throughout the city of Arles. Curated by Jeannette Zwingenberger, this exhibition explores representations of cannibalism, from Greek mythology (Saturn, Polyphemus and Tantalus) to 19th century vampire legends, along with travel writings of New World explorers and children's fairytale giants. Jean Pigozzi's contemporary African art collection (one of the most important ones in the world), will be displayed for the first time alongside works by young Japanese artists under the age of 30. Over the past few years, Pigozzi has acquired several hundred such works, which have never been shown in public before. The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams The Life that Came In 1999, Alessandra Sanguinetti (born in 1968) began to work on a series of photographs which registers the saga of two young cousins named Guille and Belinda, then nine and ten years old. Cultivating an intimate relationship with the pair over the past five years, Sanguinetti collaborates with the girls to construct images fuelled by the dreams, fantasies, and fears that accompany the psychological and physical transition from childhood to adulthood, with the Argentinean countryside as a backdrop.

Proximity and evidence make us blind: France is unaware of the inventiveness, the diversity and the current creative agitation of some of our closest neighbours. ABC is an exhibition that does not claim to be a comprehensive portrayal of the diversity of the contemporary scene in Belgium. The disciplines most particularly taught and practiced at Le Fresnoy have formed the criteria of priority for selection purposes: photography, film, video, installation, performance and choreography..
