A pioneer of optical or Op art in the 1960s, a historical figure in Kinetic art and the epitome of an anti-conformist artist, Julio Le Parc defined the principles that would guide his approach very early on: a certain critical analysis of the artist’s situation and social role, the endeavor to go beyond its contradictions through commitment and continual experimentation.

Book in Standard & Collector’s Editions

Calder by Matter is the first Cahiers d’Art publication since the relaunch of the Cahiers d’Art revue in October 2012. Is has been edited in collaboration with the Calder Foundation. 

On the occasion of the book launch, Cahiers d’Art will present an exhibition of over thirty works by Calder, including mobiles, stabiles, bronzes, decorative objects, and gouaches, as well as a selection of photographs by Matter.

This winter, MAGASIN will present a solo exhibition by German artist Anselm Reyle. This exhibition is being realized in collaboration with the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Germany. It features selected works from various series created in recent years as well as new pieces developed specially for the show. His exhibition at MAGASIN will play upon the monumentality of the central space under roof, called «la Rue», which will be home to a site-specific work realized for this occasion. The galleries will display existing pieces and will provide an overview of Anselm Reyle’s work.

Announcement of the SAM Prize for contemporary Art 2012

True to its mission of supporting young creativity, Palais de Tokyo is hugely active in promoting emerging artists. Incubator for emerging creators, the modules provide 5 artists residing in France the opportunity to show their work at Palais de Tokyo for two months.

La maison rouge continues its cycle of exhibiting private collections. Starting 20th October, the collection of the Italian couple Giuliana and Tommaso Setari will be shown. They have founded the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art. Here are some of the artists of the collection: Carla Accardi, Luciano Fabro, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Ettore Spalletti.

The 39th edition of FIAC will take place from the 18 to the 21st October 2012 at the Grand Palais, in the Jardin des Tuileries and in the Jardin des Plantes, Paris. Thanks to its qualitative ambition which is reaffirmed year on year and a developed synergy with the most important Parisian institutions, FIAC is positioned as one of the unmissable events of the artworld calendar.
