GIANNI PETTENA FORGIVING ARCHITECTURE

49 NORD 6 EST

FONDS REGIONAL D'ART CONTEMPORAIN DE LORRAINE

X YEARS OF AN UNDISCIPLINED SITE ! / GIANNI PETTENA  FORGIVING ARCHITECTURE

Who better to celebrate the X years at 49 Nord 6 Est than an anarchitect! FRAC Lorraine, a singular, unclassifiable place, enjoys subverting and mixing up knowledge, and above all, experimenting. There is no one better than Gianni Pettena to transform this space and its perception by creating an airy, mercurial installation that goes against the grain of centuries’ old, static architecture. Gianni Pettena, whose work is at the crossroads of art and architecture, has never built much and claims that his only architecture project is his cabin on the island of Elba. As a principal figure of Italian Radical Architecture*, Pettena spends more time thinking than laying bricks.

FLAMME ÉTERNELLE - THOMAS HIRSCHHORN

PALAIS DE TOKYO

Eternal Flame is the title of the exhibition that I propose for the Palais de Tokyo. It is an artwork, an exhibition within an institution. What I want to do is to create—within an institution—a public space or moments of public space. A space for encounters, dialogue, engagement. A space in which to be, to stay, to spend time and a space in which to think.

PALAIS DE TOKYO

Imagining the worst conceivable tomorrows gives me tremendous pleasure at the artistic level. The darkness of the future lights up my present, and foreknowledge of a coming end guarantees my happiness in living today. In this exhibition you will find the worst scenarios created by my imagination regarding the future of humankind. Hiroshi Sugimoto

ARTISTS IN THE CITY

MUCEM - MUSEE DES CIVILISATIONS DE L'EUROPE ET DE LA MEDITERRANEE

By choosing to get actively involved in social and political life of their countries, many Moroccan artists raise the question of the place of the artist in society today. From visual arts to performing arts, through all forms of hybridization of disciplines , the works presented keep track of the deep commitment of artists in the city. They evoke politics, the world of work or religion and they allow us to consider the implications of creating the daily everyone.

A MACHINE DESIRE INSTRUCTION AS A GARDEN DESIRE DISCIPLINE

FRAC LORRAINE, METZ

A machine desires instruction as a garden desires discipline examines the mechanisms underlying modern capitalist Europe. Catalina Lozano invites us to reexamine and reevaluate historical facts and their present consequences (Keiller, Kirschner & Panos, Plender). Documentary narratives (Farocki), anthropological discourse (Alves & Durham, Satorre), and metaphorical propositions (Lin, Weber) are combined in order to deconstruct Eurocentric certitudes.

How does self-submission to fundamental dualism continue to persist?

How do conventions and commands become interiorized? This is a true call to dismantle and perhaps do away with the binary vision of the world…
