LES RENCONTRES D'ARLES

LES RENCONTRES D’ARLES 2014 - "PARADE"
7 July – 21 September 2014
Opening week from 7 to 13 July

The 45th Rencontres d’Arles marked by friendship and loyalty

As the Rencontres are reaching a incomparable  audience (the greatest attendance was attained in 2013 with almost 100 000 visitors) and their universal fame is definitively installed, we are assisting to the end of an era with the departure of François Hébel, who, during his 12 years as president of the festival, managed rebuild the Rencontres’ from its degraded status.

François Hébel has chosen to leave his post in a theatrical manner, offering a last parade around and with his many photographer friends who have contributed to the festival’s success. Raymond Depardon, Christian Lacroix, Martin Parr, Lucien Clergue, Erik Kessels, Bill Hunt, Joan Fontcuberta, Luce Lebart will all come to Arles in 2014 with new propositions.

The second part of the programme is made of original propositions of artists and curators who have never been to the Rencontres d’Arles before. Among them : David Bailey, Vik Muniz, Patrick Swirc, Artur Walter, Daile Kaplan, the five curators and ten nominees of the Discovery price, and many others, such as the actor Vincent Perez, whose first passion was photography.

MARSEILLE-PROVENCE 2013 : AUGUST IN DANSE

MARSEILLE

Over the last few years, talented artists have flourished in the Mediterranean, especially in the field of dance. Interaction between artists from northern and southern Mediterranean countries is extremely fruitful. While it is difficult to speak in general terms of “Mediterranean dance”, there is a uniquely Mediterranean art of gestures, as noted by Virgilio Sieni.

FROM 22 JUNE 2013
LE COMITÉ PROFESSIONNEL DES GALERIES D’ART (CPGA) S’ASSOCIE AU PALAIS DE TOKYO POUR NOUVELLES VAGUES.

DANS TOUT PARIS

After «Cold Sun», Palais de Tokyo, along with thirty galleries and art spaces throughout Paris, innovates once more to emphasize the emergence of the figure of the curator. At Palais de Tokyo, “Nouvelles vagues” (New Waves) is a large-scale event organized by 21 international young curators (hailing from 13 different countries), working individually or in groups, and selected by a jury from over 500 candidates.
«Nouvelles vagues» will transform the entirety of Palais de Tokyo’s exhibition space and spread out throughout the city, putting on display the artists, ideas and situations endorsed by these visionary young professionals.
Owing to the efforts of the Comité professionnel des galeries d’art [professional committee of art galleries], this event will be completed through the involvement of some thirty Parisian galleries. In partnership with Palais de Tokyo, these institutions will each invite a young curator to conceive an exhibition within their walls. Together, these fifty proposals will mark an unprecedented moment in Paris’ artistic life and present a fresh perspective on today’s artistic practices.
