THE EUROPE OF RUBENS

The first international exhibition at the Louvre-Lens aims to shed light on Rubens’ time through over 170 works by the artist, by his models and by some of his contemporaries, from the Louvre’s collections and from leading European and American museums.

Reflecting the European artistic culture that mattered to Rubens, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and decorative arts. It aims to reproduce the dynamism of Rubens’ creative output and conveys the spectacular nature of his inspiration. It also offers a few intimate moments, revealing a more personal side to Rubens.

VIEWS FROM ABOVE

There has been a considerable regain in interest in the aerial view over recent years. From the success of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's Earth From Above to the popularity of Google Earth, we are fascinated by this bird's-eye view as much for the beauty of the landscapes it reveals as the feeling of omnipotence it inspires.

The exhibition draws on this popularity to return to the origins of aerial photography and explore its impact on the work of artists and, consequently, the history of art.

EMOTIONS - ERWIN OLAF A LA SUCRIERE

LA SUCRIERE - LYON - FRANCE

Dutch artist Erwin Olaf was born in 1959 in Hilversum, the Netherlands. He has lived and worked in Amsterdam since the 1980s.

He is exhibiting several of his photographic and video exhibitions, produced between 2001 and 2012, at La Sucrière. A single glance is all that is required for the onlooker to delve into the quite particular world created by his work.
