BACCHANALES MODERNES ! LE NU, L'IVRESSE ET LA DANSE DANS L'ART FRANÇAIS DU XIXE SIÈCLE

Alternately antique dancer, nymph or fatal maenad, the bacchante appears frequently in the creations of the artists of the XIXth century. From Pradier to Rodin, from Berlioz in the Russian Ballets to the most diverse artists exploit this figure, partner of Éros and Thanatos. 

Approaching all the techniques and all the disciplines of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, graphic arts) but also dance, theater, opera, cinema, the exhibition of the Galerie des Beaux Arts of Bordeaux gives a new look to the arts of the XIXth century and of the beginning of the XXth century by plunging the visitor into the visual universe but also musical of this great period.

Strong of the exceptional support of the Musée d'Orsay, the exhibition presents more than 130 artworks for the main part from French public collections (Musée du Louvre, Musée Rodin , Petit Palais, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Musées des Beaux Arts de Lille, Rouen, Strasbourg, Nantes, Toulouse).

The exhibition Bacchanales modernes ! Le nu, l'ivresse et la danse dans l'art français du XIXe siècle is coproduced by the Musée des Beaux Arts of Bordeaux and the Palais Fesch of Ajaccio.
