FUKAMI - A PLUNGE INTO THE JAPANESE AESTHETIC

Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild

Tradition and modernity, flux and form, ephemeral and eternal, two opposing faces of the same element: the Japanese aesthetic, or the art of the coexistence of opposites. Presented at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, this exhibition will mark the opening of Japonismes 2018, designed by the commissariat of Yuko Hasegawa, Artistic Director of the Contemporary Museum of Art in Tokyo. It will unveil the soul of the Japanese aesthetic through a journey interspersed with traditional works and contemporary creations. What better way to illustrate the harmony that transcends artistic mediums and epochs, and to incarnate the vitality specific to the Japanese aesthetic than presenting a Jômon pottery from several thousand years B.C. next to a dress sculpted by the young creator of the Anrealage label, inspired by said pottery? Through a large array of new works (painting, installation, photography, fashion, sculpture, etc.) and using themes illustrating a multiplicity of concepts (primitivism, hybridization, minimalism, alchemy, philosophy of lightness, renaissance, etc.), the FUKAMI exhibition will embody the Japanese aesthetic, which unites tradition and modernity with a new perspective.
