IN SPRINGTIME 2021 // DATE TO COME

OPENING OF THE FRANCISCAINES

DEAUVILLE

Housing both a museum, an auditorium, temporary exhibitions, reading and documentation spaces, structured around themes dear to the city of Deauville - horses, cinema, entertainment, photography, the art of live, youth -, the Franciscaines - a major project of the City of Deauville - displays the audacity of a contemporary space, whose originality stems from its hybridity, its desire to decompartmentalize knowledge and the arts, its anchoring territorial and its desire to make it above all a place of life. A triple vocation guides the cultural program of this place which will open in 2021: conviviality, exploration of resources, artistic programming.

INAUGURAL EXHIBITION OF THE FRANCISCANS: "ON THE WAYS OF PARADISE"

The reconversion of a religious place necessarily questions its capacity to unite, to bring together individuals with different religious beliefs. How to register this imprint in the memory of places without tainting its new neutrality? How can we instill an ecumenical spirit without denying this heritage? It was by questioning that the subject of inter-religious dialogue was born. Very quickly, the extent of the exchanges led the scientific council to wonder about the imagination which can guide each one in its relation to the faith, and about the representation of Paradise in the three religions of the book. This is the first route that Les Franciscaines offers visitors to take. Pinitial aradis, lost paradise or terminal paradise, garden of Eden envisaged as the stay of a hoped afterlife, this fabulous place concentrates the human aspiration to invent itself beyond life.
