RAMSES & THE GOLD OF THE PHARAOHS

LA GRANDE HALLE DE LA VILLETTE - PARIS

Ramses the Great: the name alone of this mighty pharaoh conjures up images of the Great Pyramids, magnificent temples, Egyptian gods and tales of biblical proportions. Following the tremendous successes of Tutankhamun: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh and Machu Picchu and the Treasures of Peru, World Heritage Exhibitions (WHE) is proud to call Paris home once more, with Ramses & The Gold of the Pharaohs at the Grande Halle de la Villette.

Ramses II ruled over Egypt for 67 years, the longest reign ever recorded for a pharaoh. He played a pivotal role in consolidating - and pushing back - the borders of empire, bringing peace and prosperity to Egypt. He also led an extraordinary building campaign, leaving behind an unparalleled number of temples, statues and other monuments after his death. Ramses was 92 when he died, and throughout his long life he was closely associated with Amun-Ra, the Sun God, and was worshiped as a deity by his subjects. The history and glory of Ramses are explored even to this day in books and films.

WHE is thrilled and honoured to work with the Supreme Council of Antiquities of the Arab Republic of Egypt to bring the story of Ramses II to life in an exhibition showcasing 180 priceless objects. WHE will deliver a high-quality immersive experience in the knowledge that the people of Paris demand only the very best.

The artefacts in the exhibition will be displayed in lavish settings against the backdrop of a soundtrack made for the occasion. Visitors will also have the chance to immerse themselves in unique multimedia productions that re-create the Battle of Kadesh and a “virtual mummification”.

From the Great Pyramids of Giza to the Valley of the Kings, and from the Temples of Abu Simbel to Karnak, we invite you on a journey that began 3,000 years ago in the ancient city of Memphis. Come and explore the life of Ramses II: warrior, builder, diplomat and expert in economics and - last but not least - guide to the Egyptian afterlife.

We would like to thank the Grande Halle de la Villette for providing such a spectacular setting once more. We would also like to extend our thanks to Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities, our colleagues at N.on and all our partners, the media and the companies in Paris who have helped bring this exhibition to fruition. Above all, we would like to express our gratitude to the people of Paris and the people of France for their warm welcome.
