SARAH BRAHIM - SOMETIMES, WE ARE ETERNAL

Bally Foundation

This autumn, Bally Foundation presents the first solo exhibition by Saudi-American artist Sarah Brahim: "Sometimes we are eternal."

The exhibition brings together ten new installations, works produced specifically for the occasion, in an ensemble where all the pieces, while independent, trace the contours of an intimate landscape. What marks does memory leave on materials? How can we discern between memory and imagination? Spread over two floors, in a space reminiscent of a dance studio, video and sound installations, photographs and sculptures offer a score in which gestures and sounds question our presence in the world, our very physicality.

Born in 1992, Saudi-American artist Sarah Brahim trained at the San Francisco Conservatory, the London School of Contemporary Dance, and Oregon Health and Science University. Stemming from a concrete, physical practice and an analytical understanding of the body, Brahim adopts a holistic approach in her research, in which the center—the body—is taken into account in all its forms, without hierarchy.

Combining video, installation, performance, photography, textiles, and sound, Brahim’s immersive and inclusive work uses the body as medium, inviting viewers to examine their own bodies’ capacity to transform through experience.
