From the birth of cathedrals to goth counterculture and fantasy, Gothic art has spanned the centuries. For the first time, Louvre-Lens is devoting a panorama to Gothic art from the 12th to the 21st century, from its very beginnings to the “neo-Gothic” and “Gothic” of today.
Gothic art resonates with the time of the cathedral builders. The first pan-European movement, it inspired exceptional artistic forms with unparalleled expressive power. Sculptures, objets d'art, graphic arts, paintings, photographs, installations and furniture are brought together in a tour of almost 200 works.
Together, they offer an opportunity to discover the renewals and continuities of these Gothic languages, which blossomed over time and were forcefully reborn in the 18th and 19th centuries, and which continue to inspire us today.
