DYNASTIC JEWELS

THE AL THANI COLLECTION AT THE HÔTEL DE LA MARINE – PARIS

The Al Thani Collection at the Hôtel de la Marine, Paris, hosts the third in a series of exhibitions held in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Following previous shows dedicated to Medieval and Renaissance works of art, this exhibition focusses on important historical jewels.
Bringing together rare and exquisite pieces from the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and The Al Thani Collection, the exhibition highlights the significance of jewellery as an enduring expression of power and prestige, while emphasising their sentimental value and the role jewels played as a mark of royal favour. Many of the pieces to be displayed are associated with the reign and legend of some of the most notable figures in European history, including Catherine the Great, Joséphine Bonaparte and Queen Victoria. From fabled gemstones and historic tiaras to spectacular brooches, diadems and necklaces, 'Dynastic Jewels' presents magnificent pieces intended to be worn in the opulent settings of Europe’s royal courts, where they reflected the status, lineage and authority of their owners.
The exhibition is organised by The Al Thani Collection Foundation and the Centre des monuments nationaux in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum.
