From 13 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, the Opale Foundation (Lens/Crans-Montana) is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the art of the Spinifex people, which emerged from their struggle for recognition of their rights to their ancestral lands. Organised in partnership with the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection at the University of Virginia (United States), this exhibition brings together more than 60 works by internationally renowned artists from the Spinifex Arts Project.

The exhibition explores the relationship between the Anangu Putinguru, or Pila Nguru – commonly known as the Spinifex people – and their territory, a relationship they have maintained for millennia. It highlights the evolution and diversity of the Spinifex Arts Project’s practices, bringing together works by leading artists such as Lawrence Pennington, Tjaruwa Woods, Patju Presley and Timo Hogan alongside large-scale collaborative paintings.

This exhibition draws on the collections of the Opale Foundation and the Bérengère Primat Collection, as well as a remarkable body of over 50 paintings donated to the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection by Gary Brown and Greg Castillo of the University of California, Berkeley.

The Opale Foundation is also hosting an exceptional exhibition of works on paper by Lee Ufan. The Korean artist reveals a previously little-known aspect of his practice.
