On the initiative of François Pinault, Christie’s is organizing a charity auction for the benefit of the work carried out by the eminent oncologist, Professor David Khayat, through his association with AVEC (Association pour la Vie et l’Espoir contre le Cancer).

François Pinault suggested to David Khayat that he invite internationally renowned contemporary artists to support AVEC. All of the artists contacted (Bill Viola, Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, Pierre et Gilles, Rudolph Stingel…) responded to Mr. Pinault’s request with generosity, donating important works for this cause.

All proceeds from the charity auction will go towards the Association’s work in cancer research and improving treatment and support for cancer patients.

The sale will take place on the 17th March 2009 at 7pm at Christie’s, Paris. A catalogue will be published for the occasion.

An exhibition of the works will be on view from the 12th to the 16th March in Christie’s viewing rooms at Avenue Matignon, Paris.
