FUTUROTEXTIEL 08

Hall SNCB in Courtrai, Belgium

Following « Futurotextiles » at the Tri Postal in 2006, conceived and carried out by lille3000, which was presented in Istanbul during Design Week September 2007, and on the proposal of Stefaan de Clerck, Bourgmestre de Courtrai, and Martine Aubry, the Mayor of Lille and President of lille3000, Designregio Kortrijk and lille3000 present FUTUROTEXTILE 08 from October 9 to December 7 2008, in an old SNCB lobby in Courtai, with the cooperation of the Broel Museum.
The product of a trans-border collaboration, FUTUROTEXTIEL 08 will present, in direct collaboration with companies in the field, different poles of excellence and technical colleges, the most innovative technical textiles and extraordinary contemporary artworks, design, architecture… We will principally see textile applications from the region of Courtrai-Lille, but also from other countries, which will demonstrate through their products, the creativity and innovation which is thriving in the textile sector today. The exhibition will sensitise visitors to the importance of research and developments in the textile industry.
FUTUROTEXTIEL 08 will unite three large sectors : educational elements, technical textiles and contemporary artistic creation. A lounge will complete the exhibition and will serve as a meeting place for businesses and schools, for conferences, parties and other events.
The educational space will allow the public to better understand the universe of textiles. We will discover there for example that materials can be made from basalt rock or beetroot.
Innovative textiles are the material of choice for artists (those working in plastics, designers, fashion designers) who integrate them into their latest projects. It is this aspect, to which the third section of the exhibition is dedicated.
And from 2009, a travelling module with a section of the exhibition will kick off a world tour in conjunction with the CulturesFrance network.
