CENTRE POMPIDOU MOBILE

The Centre Pompidou mobile is the first moving museum in the world. Its ambition is to present works from its world-renowned collection of masterpieces (Picasso, Calder, Matisse, Léger…) and make of modern and contemporary art accessible to a very large audience.

Designed by the architect Patrick Bouchain, the Centre Pompidou mobile (650m ²) is organized around several juxtaposed modules that fit into the festive spirit of the circus. Very light and flexible, this structure fits all places, without claiming heavy investment.

The first exhibition entitled The Color will present masterpieces of the greatest artists of modern art (Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Leger, Calder ...) and a contemporary installation by Olafur Eliasson, from the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the first collection of modern art in Europe.

The first season of the Centre Pompidou mobile will start in October 2011 with a first step in Chaumont (Haute-Marne), followed by steps in 2012 in Cambrai and Boulogne-sur-Mer (Nord-Pas-de-Calais).

The Centre Pompidou mobile benefits of the financing of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the local communities and national sponsors: Foundation Total, GDF-Suez, the Galeries Lafayette and the insurance La Parisienne.
