SUBTERRANEAN WORLDS

LOUVRE-LENS

What goes on underground? What are these worlds, which have fed our imaginations since the dawn of time, like?

Echoing the history of the Hauts-de-France region and its coal-mining past, the Underground Worlds exhibition explores these little-known and imperceptible places of humanity. From invisible depths to mythical and fabulous worlds, from frightening worlds to incredibly creative and inspiring ones, the reality of the underground is manifold.

With over 200 works of art from all eras, the exhibition reveals the ambivalence and fertility of these worlds.

The exhibition invites visitors on a sensitive journey, following this relationship with the abyss, from shadow to light.
